Tehran reached a crucial landmark on the path towards unwinding economic sanctions Monday with the shipment of nuclear material to Russia, US Secretary of State John Kerry said in a statement. Under the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) agreed to in July, Iran agreed to limit its nuclear program in exchange for the relaxation of economic sanctions. Iranian officials have said the Opec producer could begin exporting as much as 500,000 barrels per day of oil immediately when those sanctions are eased, potentially by late January (OD Nov.18'15).
