Gazprom Neft Starts Kurdish Drilling

Russia's Gazprom Neft said Friday that exploration drilling started at one of its three blocks in the Iraqi semiautonomous region of Kurdistan, which is in line with the company's plans to proceed with projects in the region. Gazprom Neft, the oil arm of state Gazprom, said drilling of the first research well has started at the Shakal Block in Kurdistan, in which it holds an 80% operating stake. Canadian Grey Wolf, which provides equipment, personnel and support services for onshore drilling, has been chosen as a contractor.
