EEX Takes Control of French Exchange

One of Europe's leading power, natural gas and emissions exchanges, Leipzig-based European Energy Exchange (EEX), is to take control of another: France's Powernext. EEX, indirectly 62.82% owned by Deutsche Borse group, became the majority shareholder in Powernext after raising its equity stake from 50% to 55.8%. EEX said that relevant competition authorities had already approved the no-cash deal, which also involved an asset swap to power grid operators France's RTE, Belgium's Elia and Dutch TenneT.
