By the middle of this year, foreign operators exploring Qatar's deep offshore pre-Khuff formation will likely have all drilled their first wells. Any gas discovery from the formation could ease the pressure on state Qatar Petroleum (QP) to lift its moratorium on the supergiant North Field, which is set to expire by next year.
