Iran says it will more than triple production of natural gas from its giant South Pars field to 1 billion cubic meters per day within three years, a senior energy official said, a level that would make it the third-largest producer in the world, not far behind the US and Russia. Iran shares the field with the tiny Mideast Gulf state of Qatar, the world's richest nation per capita thanks to its successful development of the supergiant North Field, which produces some 20 billion cubic feet per day and feeds the country's 77 million ton per year LNG production.
