'Golden Age of Gas' to Expand to China: IEA

The "Golden Age of Gas" already established in North America will expand to China over the next five years, the International Energy Agency (IEA) said in its 2014 Medium-Term Gas Market Report on Tuesday. However, the projected near-doubling of Chinese gas demand through 2019 compensates for a slowdown in growth in many other areas of the the world. The annual report, which provides five-year projections of gas demand, supply and trade, sees global demand rising by 2.2% per year by the end of the forecast period, reaching 3.98 trillion cubic meters (140.5 trillion cubic feet) by 2019, which compares with a 2.4% rate projected in last year's outlook.
