Kazakhstan's oil minister has confirmed that commercial production from Kazakhstan's giant offshore Kashagan oil field will not kick off until 2016 and may not happen until the second half of the year due to the need to replace two defective pipelines (IOD Apr.30'14). "The optimistic scenario says that the production will be resumed in the first half of 2016," Kazakh Oil and Gas Minister Uzakbai Karabalin told a news briefing in the capital, Astana. "The second possible timeframe for the resumption falls on the second half of 2016," he was quoted as saying.
