CNOOC Drills First Shale Gas Well

China National Offshore Oil Corp. (CNOOC) has finished drilling its first-ever shale gas exploration well in eastern China's landlocked Anhui province, said the company (IOD Jan.13'12). Huiye 1 took 91 days to drill to a depth of 3,001 meters in the Wuhu city area of southeast Anhui and encountered two sets of shale gas layers with good potential. The next step will be to frack and test the well, the company said.
