Mol Adds North Sea Assets to E&P Portfolio

Hungary's MOL acquired 14 licenses in the North Sea from Germany's Wintershall on Friday, in a sign of the region's continued strategic importance for smaller players even as the majors are backing out. The majority of MOL's acquisitions were for nonoperated stakes in exploration or development stage projects. Of the 14 licenses acquired, the only producing asset is a 29% stake in the Broom field, which is operated by London-listed EnQuest. A relative novice to offshore E&P and the North Sea, MOL's only operatorship will be for the Blakeney field, with a 75% equity stake.
