A Total-operated exploration well testing the presalt oil potential of Gabon's deepwater ran into mechanical issues and had to be re-spud. The Diaman-1 well hit mechanical difficulties drilling through a shallow section of the Diaba Block offshore Gabon, minority partner Cobalt International Energy said this week. The well has since been re-spud and results are expected in the third quarter. Total operates the 2.2 million acre Diaba Block with a 42.5% stake, alongside US firms Cobalt (21.25%) and Marathon Oil (21.25%). The Gabonese government holds a 15% carried interest.
