Ichthys Orders LNG Vessels

Ichthys LNG in Australia has ordered two LNG carriers to deliver cargoes from the project to its buyers in Japan and Taiwan. According to Ichthys operator Inpex, a 155,3000 cubic meter carrier, to be built by Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, would carry 900,000 tons of LNG per year to Japan from the 8.4 million ton/yr project, which is located in Western Australia. The ship would be built with a peapod-shaped continuous cover over the four Moss tanks, which combined with reheated steam turbine propulsion, would reduce fuel consumption per unit of cargo by 20% compared to conventional LNG carriers, Inpex noted. A second vessel, with a capacity of 182,000 cubic meters, would deliver LNG to Taiwan's CPC.
