Natural gas from Myanmar's offshore Shwe fields reached the Chinese border county of Ruili in the southwestern Yunnan province on Wednesday, China National Petroleum Corp. (CNPC) said Thursday, noting that the Chinese section of the Myanmar-China gas pipeline was still not finished. The Myanmar leg of the 12 Bcm/yr capacity line started up last Sunday and gas is expected to reach Lufeng county in Yunnan on Friday, CNPC said. The company has completed 2,373 km, or around 94%, of the necessary pipeline welding on the Chinese section of the pipeline. A stretch running from Lufeng to Guigang in the neighboring Guangxi province is expected to be put into operation next month (IOD Jul.18'13).
