Centrica Eyes Further Growth in 'Attractive' North America

UK leading energy marketer Centrica on Wednesday reaffirmed its intent to expand its business in North America following the company's acquisition this week of Hess Corp.'s US-based energy retail arm (IOD Jul.31'13). In a first-half earnings statement, Centrica highlighted recent investments in both the upstream and downstream supply of natural gas in North America suggesting that the opportunities for M&A right now are greater there than on the home front. "The low gas price makes acquisitions in North America relatively attractive compared to the UK, where costs are increasing," Centrica stated.
