Former First Deputy Prime Minister Umirzak Shukeyev has been installed as the new chairman of Kazakh state oil and gas firm Kazmunaigas (KMG), replacing the recently ousted Timur Kulibayev, a company spokesman confirmed Thursday. The move was widely expected following Shukeyev’s appointment to the KMG board of directors last week, given that he represents KMG’s sole shareholder, sovereign wealth fund Samruk-Kazyna, where he has also replaced Kulibayev as chairman (IOD Jan.16’12).
