Japan is considering providing sovereign insurance for Japanese oil tankers calling at Iran, although negotiations with the EU to avert looming European sanctions remain its top priority, according to a Japanese government source familiar with the shipping situation. "It would be safe to say that all options are on the table, and providing sovereign insurance might be one of them," he said. But he stressed that the government has yet to decide which option to go with. At the moment, discussions with the EU remain the government's "first priority," he added.
