Royal Dutch Shell, the US Coast Guard and the federal Bureau of Safety and Environmental Enforcement all said Friday morning that the sheen in the Gulf of Mexico near the Mars and Ursa platforms has broken up and is dissipating very quickly (IOD Apr.13'12). The sheen at one time was about one mile by 10 miles and was located 50 miles from the site of the 2010 Macondo oil spill.
