Weak industrial demand alongside a mild winter and warm summer led to a 6.8% drop in French electricity consumption in 2011, RTE, the country’s electricity transmission operator, said Thursday. Electricity use was 478.2 TWh, with roughly 2,600 MW of newbuild generation capacity starting commercial operation during the year, mostly wind farms and gas-fired CCGT units.
