Ukraine Eyes Qatari LNG

Cash-strapped Ukraine is considering imports of LNG from Qatar as a cheaper alternative to Russian gas and as it tries to diversify its energy supply routes away from its powerful eastern neighbor. "Ukraine is persistently working to diversify its sources of gas deliveries and is considering the possibility of acquiring gas from Qatar," Ukrainian Prime Minister Nikolai Azarov said on the Ukrainian government website. Despite usually being more costly, Azarov said that in this case LNG could be twice as cheap as the price at which Ukraine now buys piped gas from Russia.
