Korean LNG Imports Fall

South Korea bought 2.89 million tons of LNG at an average $13.30 per million Btu in January, down 41.4% from a year earlier, customs data released Wednesday reveal. This was also a 40% drop from 4.81 million tons in December, which typically has strong winter demand (IOD Jan.17’12). Strong forward buying in the previous months -- and the shipping of three BP Tangguh spot cargoes from Indonesia to Korea Gas in December -- filled inventories and deterred spot and incremental term shipments.
