A long-anticipated expansion of international oil-field services operating margins has proved more elusive than services providers had hoped, but Schlumberger's chief executive says all of the pieces are now in place to make it happen in the not too distant future. International margins -- those earned outside North America -- have been a drag on the overall performance of the major oil-field services firms in recent years, but this is largely their own doing.
