Statoil Eyes New Prospects in Norway's Barents Sea

Just days after signing a cooperation agreement with Russia's Rosneft to jointly explore areas of the Russian Arctic, Statoil revealed Thursday the details of further Arctic exploration plans in Norway's slice of the Barents Sea (IOD May8'12). Norwegian Statoil said it has identified four new prospects around the Skrugard and Havis discovery areas in the Barents and will kick off a four-well exploration campaign there in December. The prospects lie on Statoil-operated PL 532 -- home to Skrugard and Havis -- and neighboring PL 609. "In some of these we have observed flat spots of the same type as in the Skrugard and Havis discoveries," said Knut Harald Nygard, vice president for exploration in the Skrugard area.
