UK-listed Chariot Oil and Gas said Tuesday it has been awarded a 90% interest and operatorship of offshore Block C-19 in Mauritania -- marking the company's first move into the West African country. Block C-19 -- where water depths range from five meters to 2,100 meters -- covers an area of 14,125 sq km. The contract for the area entails an initial three-year period during which Chariot has agreed to reprocess existing 2- D seismic data and carry out a 3-D seismic survey over 1,600 sq km. Chariot will then decide whether to carry out exploration drilling on the license.
