Australia’s New South Wales Eyes Tougher CBM Rules

The government of Australia’s New South Wales (NSW) released a draft strategic plan on Tuesday for its coalbed methane (CBM)-rich New England North West and Upper Hunter regions. If adopted, the plan will increase scrutiny of CBM projects by requiring companies to apply for a “gateway” certificate before submitting any development applications for projects located within two kilometers of strategic agricultural land.
