Essar Oil said Wednesday it “expects” to appeal against a Supreme Court decision that excludes the refiner from a program which would have allowed it to defer paying sales tax until 2021. Essar was originally granted the deferment as part of a capital investment incentive scheme in India’s Gujarat state, after it agreed to build a giant refinery there. But the state government later tried to revoke Essar’s right to an exemption, arguing that it had failed to complete construction of the refinery within a prescribed time frame.
