Lundin Acknowledges Less Oil at Norway’s Avaldsnes Discovery

Lundin Petroleum acknowledged on Monday that its 40%-operated Avaldsnes discovery in the Norwegian North Sea is likely to yield less oil than was previously expected, after the firm drilled a disappointing appraisal well on the southern flank of the field. Combined with Statoil’s neighboring Aldous Major South find in Block PL265, in which Lundin has a 10% interest, the Aldous discovery ranks as one of the largest-ever strikes on the country’s continental shelf. Well 16/5-2S is the first of an extensive appraisal program in the southern flank of Avaldsnes in license area PL501 and comprises at least four wells.
