Indonesia Awards Three Blocks as Many Investors Steer Clear

Indonesia has awarded just three of the 17 oil and gas exploration blocks it offered in an open tender last November, with an energy ministry official saying take-up was poor because the areas lacked supporting seismic data. French oil giant Total and Italy's Eni both picked up blocks in Papua province in eastern Indonesia. Total was awarded the South West Bird's Head Block, which stretches both onand offshore West Papua, while the Italian firm won the Arguni I Block, which again lies both onand offshore West Papua.
