MARKET EYE: European Refiners See Gasoline Profits

Europe's refiners are making more money from gasoline than diesel for the first time in over 15 months -a sign of things to come if predictions of a regional switch back to gasoline from diesel prove correct (IOD May4,p1). A buoyant US gasoline market ahead of the end-May start of the summer driving season has pushed the Rotterdam gasoline crack spread -the price difference between a barrel of gasoline and a barrel of the Brent crude from which it is made -to over $18 per barrel this week, compared with just $13/bbl for ultra-low-sulfur diesel (ULSD).
