CNOOC Cuts Production Following Leak in Offshore Gas Pipeline

China National Offshore Oil Corp. (CNOOC) looks set to end the year on a low note after yet another operational problem forced it to curb gas production offshore China (IOD Nov.24’11). CNOOC said late Monday that a gas pipeline leak at the Zhuhai Hengqin oil and gas processing terminal was discovered — and that the company ramped up the depressurization process and suspended output from the Panyu 30-1 and Huizhou 21-1 gas fields. This will shut off production of about 160 million cubic feet per day or 26,700 barrels of oil equivalent per day, roughly 22.5% of the firm’s domestic gas output of 709 MMcf/d in the third quarter.
