Qaddafi Fights on in Libya as UN and EU Tighten Net Against Regime

In a bid to hasten the downfall of Muammar Qaddafi, who remains defiant in Tripoli as more areas of Libya slip from his grasp, the UN and EU have imposed a set of sanctions - in- cluding a travel ban and asset freeze - on the Libyan leader, his close family and members of his entourage (IOD Feb.28,p3). But fears per- sist that nothing will stop Qaddafi, who has vowed to fight until the last drop of blood and has warned of the threat of civil war, from hanging on and unleashing mayhem (see p1).
