Royal Dutch Shell is committed to ex- panding its upstream presence in Russia, where it currently is partners with gas gi- ant Gazprom in the Sakhalin-2 offshore project, as well as Gazprom Neft in the Salym Petroleum Development (SPD) production unit in West Siberia. "The most obvious areas of expansion are our existing areas in Sakhalin and West Siberia. But Russia is such a large re- source holder that we would certainly like to increase our footprint beyond those two," Maarten Wetselaar, Shell's executive vice president of finance, upstream inter- national, told International Oil Daily at En- ergy Intelligence's inaugural oil and gas conference in Moscow last week.
