The Norwegian government on Friday gave the thumbs-up to ConocoPhillips' plan for development and operation (PDO) of the Ekofisk and Eldfisk fields, in the southern part of the North Sea, 300 km offshore Norway. The plans for Ekofisk South and Eldfisk II -now submitted to parliament -entail investment of about 65 billion kroner ($12 billion). "Ekofisk is the oldest field complex in operation on the Norwegian continental shelf. It has been in production for 40 years, and with this decision we pave the way for 40 new years," Petroleum and Energy Minister Ola Borten Moe said.
