Statoil Tweaks Assets

Norwegian state oil champion Statoil an- nounced Friday both an acquisition and an asset swap involving license areas in the Nor- wegian sectors of the Barents and North Seas. Statoil has acquired US independent Hess' 3.26% share of Snohvit — now the only pro- ducing gas field in the Barents Sea — along with its interest in the Hammerfest LNG pro- duction facility on Melkoya. It will also buy the US firm's 3.26% stake in license areas PL110B, PL110C, PL448 and PL488 next to Snohvit. The deal, which is subject to gov- ernment approval, will hoist Statoil's share of Snohvit to 36.79% and cost 1 billion kroner ($178.45 million).
