Royal Dutch Shell is restarting the largestcrude distillation unit (CDU) at its Singa-pore refinery less than two weeks after theplant was shut because of a fire, three in-dustry sources with direct knowledge saidon Monday (IOD Oct.7’11).The drive to partially restart the 210,000b/d CDU, one of three at Shell’s largestplant capable of processing 500,000 b/d ofcrude, is due to strong margins for base oilsand lubricants. It will also yield light distil-lates, sufficient to keep its chemical com-plex running at reduced rates, they said.
