Petronas Makes Big Finds

Malaysia's state Petronas unveiled on Monday major oil and gas finds made in 2010 on two blocks offshore Sarawak as it explores deep waters in a bid to stem declin- ing production. An estimated 2.6 Tcf gas discovery was made in March 2010 on Block SK316 after drilling wildcat well NC3 and a subsequent appraisal well at depths of almost 4,000 me- ters. Production flow tests have shown the gas is recoverable. Block SK306 has also shown promise after the Spaoh-1 well was drilled at a depth of 3,000 meters in Decem- ber. Preliminary estimates suggest it has around 100 million bbl of oil and 200 Bcf of gas in place. The well is being prepared for production testing.
