Gazprom Neft Eyes Libya Return

Gazprom Neft hopes to return to Libya once the political turmoil ends, saying it has big plans for the North African producer. Russia's fifth-biggest oil producer is waiting to start work in the country, where parent Gazprom recently acquired half of Italian Eni's 33% share in the 124,000 b/d Elephant oil field (IOD Apr.25,p8). The company views Libya as one of the main springboards -along with Iraq, Venezuela, Cuba and Equatorial Guinea -for its plans to double oil production from last year's 52.8 million tons of oil equivalent to 100 million toe (2 million boe/d) by 2020.
