Libya, Yemen Squeeze OMV's Production

Political upheaval in North Africa and the Middle East put a dent in Austrian OMV's production in the first quarter of 2011, described by Chief Executive Gerhard Roiss as "very difficult," despite a strong operating performance. Output averaged 304,000 barrels of oil equivalent per day -compared with 317,000 boe/d a year earlier and 320,000 b/d in the last quarter of 2010 -largely due to ongoing unrest in Libya and Yemen. As a result, the company -the biggest oil and gas producer in Central and Eastern Europe-expects full-year output to be lower than in 2010, when it averaged 318,000 boe/d (IOD Apr.29,p8).
