State Pemex Slammed by Weak Peso, High Taxes

Mexican state oil company Pemex report- ed a net loss of almost 81 billion pesos ($6.17 billion) in the three months ending Sep. 30, due primarily to exchange-rate loss- es and a huge federal tax bill. The most recent quarterly loss compares with a loss of just 2.8 billion pesos in the corresponding period of last year. By com- parison, Pemex had a net profit of 9.1 billion pesos in this year's second quarter, due most- ly to strong oil prices.
