Australia's Otto Energy said on Thursday that it is abandoning its Duhat-1A sidetrack well in the Philippines because of safety concerns. The well in Service Contract 51 (SC51) in northwest Leyte Island was drilled to a depth of 321 meters when it became stuck due to "unstable hole conditions." It was then plugged back to 200 meters, where abandonment operations have started. "Drilling further ahead in Duhat-1A is now considered to be imprudent on safety grounds and abandonment is now in progress," Managing Director Paul Moore said.
