CNPC Says No Plans to Seek Subsidies Over Losses on Gas Imports

China National Petroleum Corp. (CNPC) says it won't be seeking reimbursements from the Chinese government for losses in- curred on natural gas imports. Reports in the local media had suggested the state giant was planning to ask Beijing for a subsidy to cover its unprofitable gas imports from Central Asia - much as it did when it lost money on refining in 2006 because of caps on domestic products prices (IOD Jul.18'06,p3). But a CNPC spokesman said on Wednesday that the company has no such plans and that the media reports are wrong.
