Petronas Announces Discoveries

Malaysian state firm Petronas said it has made two significant gas discoveries in shallow water offshore Sabah in Borneo. The first is the Zuhal East-1 well, located in the Sama-rang Asam Paya block, located about 130 km southwest of the regional capital of Kota Kinabalu. The well was spudded in 38 meters of water and reached a total depth of 2,336 meters. The firm estimates initial gas-in-place of 550 Bcf. Similar reservoirs in a nearby well about 5 km to the east of the discovery were tested to flow gas at a maximum rate of 21 MMcf/d.
