The US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has submitted a draft plan outlining how it intends to study the environmental effects of hydraulic fracturing on drinking water supplies. Congress directed the EPA to conduct an ex- tensive review of the critical well stimulation technique last March. The study will examine the risks of fracturing not only on drinking wa- ter, but on water withdrawal, transportation and treatment as well.
