Ophir Expands in Africa

London-listed Ophir Energy has expand- ed its acreage off Equatorial Guinea with the aim of proving up more gas reserves for a planned LNG expansion. Its Block R contract area has been expand- ed by around 46% to incorporate 773 sq km of additional acreage to hoist the total to 2,447 sq km. The expanded area covers the Estrella de Mar-1 and Oreja Marina-1 gas finds, with contingent resources of over 250 Bcf, which are on trend with Ophir's Lykos-1 discovery in Block R. The bigger area also in- cludes 15 additional prospects with total in- dicative resources of around 3 Tcf, including the 450 Bcf Tonel prospect that Ophir says it intends to drill in the first half of 2012.
