Exxon Mobil is to start drilling a first well in its operated acreage in the Turkish sector of the Black Sea in April, Mehmet Uysal, president of Turkish state TPAO, told International Oil Daily on the sidelines of an Ankara oil and gas conference this week. Drilling is expected to take four months, using Transocean's Deepwater Champion. Despite the lack of drilling success to date in the Black Sea by Chevron, Petrobras and Exxon, Uysal said he remains confident about the area's exploration potential, which TPAO has put at up to 10 billion bbl of oil and 1.5 Tcm of gas (IOD Nov.2,p6).
