Gas pipeline infrastructure in Egypt’s Sinai Peninsula has been bombed for a 10th time since unrest first broke out in the country in February, suggesting the government’s stated efforts to step up security along the route have had little impact. The attack took place six miles west of El- Arish, damaging a pipe operated by Egypt’s state Gasco, but no gas was flowing through the system — the sending-off point for Egyptian gas exports to Israel and Jordan — at the time. Flows through the system were already on hold following two attacks last month and had only briefly resumed on Nov. 19 in the wake of a Nov. 9 attack (IOD Nov.29’11).
