摘要

Momentum on energy legislation has reached a critical point in Washington, with both Houses scheduled to vote this week on environmental and regulatory reforms that could expose companies to unlimited liability for damage caused by oil spills. The US Senate bill to be offered by Majority Leader Harry Reid is one of more than 80 that sought to respond to the BP oil spill disaster in the US Gulf of Mexico. Democratic politicians have been highly critical of current law, and in particular the current limit on oil spill liability of $75 million per accident.
