Chevron Shows Confidence in US Gulf by Approving Major Projects

US major Chevron formally sanctioned a $7.5 billion development of two promising fields in the ultra-deepwater US Gulf of Mexico on Thursday, pushing ahead with the project despite regulatory uncertainty in the US after the BP oil spill earlier this year. Chevron reckons the Jack and St. Malo finds, which are about 25 miles apart in the Walker Ridge area of the Central Gulf, hold combined total recoverable reserves in excess of 500 million boe.
