Osaka Gas Seeks to Weaken Link Between LNG and Oil Prices

Japan's second-largest gas supplier, Os- aka Gas, wants to see S-curves back in long-term LNG price formulas and is pushing for US Henry Hub pricing as part of its eventual goal of “delinking” LNG from crude oil prices (IOD Nov.22,p6). In the clearest sign yet that at least one Japanese buyer wants to break the tradi- tional link to oil prices, the general man- ager of Osaka's LNG trading department, Naoto Nakamura, told International Oil Daily on Wednesday that he is is trying to negotiate Henry Hub pricing in future LNG contracts. He said “many other Japanese gas companies are currently thinking the same way,” but declined to be more specific.
