Refiners Forced to Cut Runs as French Port Strike Intensifies

A five-day blockade of sea lanes in and out of the French terminal of Fos-Lavera last week intensified on Friday when protesters briefly blocked road access to the Port of Marseilles before backing off later in the af- ternoon (IOD Oct.1,p9). At the last count by port authorities, 39 tankers ?carrying crude oil, LNG and petro- leum products ?were held up by the block- ade. This has led to throughput being cut at the six refineries supplied by crude from the port's oil terminal, according to French petro- leum industry organization UFIP.
