Wind Association Says EU Must Speed Up Consent Process

European Union (EU) member states must streamline their consent process for onshore wind farms if the EU is to meet its target of obtaining 20% of its primary en- ergy from renewables by 2020, the European Wind Energy Association (EWEA) said on Thursday. Spain and Portugal have been the slowest countries in Europe when it comes to granting building con- sent for onshore wind farms, while Italy, Belgium and the UK have been relatively quick, according to the preliminary find- ings of the EU-commissioned Wind Bar- riers study.
