Italy Hikes Energy Tax

The Italian parliament approved higher taxes for energy companies on Thursday, including an increase in the so-called "Robin Hood" tax. The controversial tax was passed recently after a year-long debate, and has now been raised to 6.5% from 5% on top of the basic company tax rate of 27.5% (IOD Aug.28,p8). The rate applies to companies involved in oil and gas extraction, refining and electricity generation.
